Course Description

FARO has partnered with the University of Michigan Architectural department.  Join Dawn Gilpin and  Robert Adams as they describe how the U of M team used FARO scanners to scan their massive football stadium. How did they do it? What lessons were learned?

Dawn Gilpin and Robert Adams are architecture faculty at Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan where they co-direct the Empathy in Point-Clouds Immersive Storytelling Scan-Lab [EIPC] sponsored by FARO Technologies.

Dawn Gilpin [M.Arch. SCI-Arc] is Lecturer IV in Architecture at Taubman College. Dawn is the Director of Empathy in Point Clouds [EIPC], a multi-disciplinary team that uses terrestrial laser scanning, aerial laser scanning, and photogrammetry to produce digital storytelling and spatial narratives of contested sites of occupation. The team develops workflows for digital twin creation through immersive platforms in education and research. She teaches architecture design studios and has developed courses for 3D terrestrial lidar scanning, FARO certification, foundations of Unreal Engine, and photogrammetry.

Robert Adams 


Robert Adams [M.Arch. SCI-Arc] is an Associate Professor of Architecture at Taubman College, the Stamps School of Art & Design, and the Digital Studies Institute at the University of Michigan. Additionally, Robert directs the University of Michigan Initiative on Disability Studies. Robert’s research focuses on the interplay between art, architecture, and design through disability culture, civic infrastructure, and responsive environments.
